Credit unions are here to help
On March 13, many people observe National Good Samaritan Day as a reminder of the importance of serving those around us, something Indiana Members Credit Union strives for through our credit union philosophy of “People Helping People”. Not only do credit unions help members like you by providing useful and affordable ways to make the most of your money, but we’re also focused on helping the communities we serve and our economy as a whole.
Unlike banks and other financial institutions, credit unions are non-profit organizations. We are focused on providing the greatest value possible to our members. We use the money you deposit in your accounts to fund loans to your fellow members, so they can buy houses, cars, and pay for their other needs. Rather than generate profits, we reward members like you with higher rates on savings, lower rates on loans, and other services at little or no cost.
When we make home loans, we’re also benefitting the community and the economy. Home ownership is the foundation of financial security and our region’s economy. As homeowners pay off their mortgages, their equity increases, improving their financial well-being. At the same time, they’re supporting the community by paying taxes and purchasing products and services from local businesses.
Credit unions like ours also help communities by providing affordable financing and other services to our small business members. Nationwide, small businesses create about two-thirds of new jobs, so when we finance small businesses growth, we’re helping to increase opportunities for people who are seeking jobs.
Indiana Members Credit Union and other credit unions invest in our communities in many ways. For example, we support a variety of other non-profits that make our communities better places to live and that offer help to our neighbors who need it. In addition, we’re always working to help our members learn more about managing money and building financial security. In so many ways, credit unions like ours provide a clear example of how serving others benefits everyone.
